Ring a bell until you tell yourself to stop

Following on from my participation in sixty_six_events I displayed an installation called Ring a bell until you tell yourself to stop in a vacant studio at Islington Mill. Below is a video of the installation.

very nice graham. I take it that its a recording on the loop?. On first look it appears to be rubbing the bell!

yes, the recording is of the bell at different tape speeds overlapping…

The bell was used to make the sounds on the tape, and acts as a capstan.

yeah, but in my head the rubbing of the tape on the bell added to the overall sound. Like, it made the bell resonate. Obviously, this was not the case….
Still, it might be possible with a larger bell….
