New installation at RHÔD 2011 exhibition, Carmarthenshire, Wales

On Saturday 11th June a new exhibition bringing rural and urban artists together opens at Melin Glonc, New Mill, Drefelin, Carmarthenshire. Titled RHÔD 2011, the show inhabits a former grain mill and its grounds.

My installation uses two existing bird-houses on the site, each of which is raised about three meters high. Microphones in each of the bird-houses pick up environmental sound which is characterised by the acoustic properties of the chambers. The sound is amplified by solar power and fed into a pair of headphones for visitors to listen through.

For more information on the show, visit the RHÔD 2011 website, where there’s information on the other participating artists and associated events including a Twmpath (social dance) and symposium on art in the rural environment.
