Sightseeking with your ears!

Sounds for Living present a day of experimental, improvised and newly commissioned sound works based at, and leading out from, Inside Out at the Fort Hill Shelter, Margate.

12pm Tendrils
A Drawing/ Listening Workshop, led by Helen Frosi (Soundfjord).

A sensory, participatory walk for the (sonically) curious. Followed by a discussion at the shelter. Please register a place here.

Please meet at the shelter at midday and allow two hours.

Live Performances from 2:30pm – 6:30pm include:
Rob Stillman

Robert Stillman is a composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music incorporates influences of Folk Americana, Jazz, Minimalism and electronic music. For Sounds for Living, Robert will be improvising around the Inside Out structure.

Steve Beresford & Sarah Brand
The legendary Steve Beresford has been a central figure in the British improvising scene for over thirty years, and has worked with hundreds of people, including The Slits, Stewart Lee, Ivor Cutler, Prince Far-I,The Flying Lizards, Otomo Yoshihide, John Zorn, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Christian Marclay and more. He plays a variety of instruments, including piano, electronics, trumpet, euphonium, bass guitar and a wide variety of toy instruments.

Trombonist Sarah Gail Brand has recorded and performed on the international Jazz and Improvised Music since the early 1990s with Mark Sanders, John Edwards, Evan Parker, Phil Minton, Lol Coxhill, Alexander Hawkins, Maggie Nicols, Rachel Musson and countless others. She appears in Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle and in the 2014 documentary, Taking The Dog for a Walk.

Slap Dash
A Trio of Tina Krasevec, David Leahy and a Double Bass.
Originating in the premise that a musical instrument is not just a passive artefact producing sound, but has its own identity and presence within a performance environment. An investigation into the different possibilities of relationship between the two performers and a double bass.

8pm Graham Dunning
Leading out from one of the shelters sightlines, we continue on into the evening in Cliftonville at the Margate Arts Club. Come with us to witness Graham Dunning’s Mechanical Techno.

The set up is enormously precarious and part of the drama comes from the fact that it might all teeter out of sync or collapse at any moment…! ”
